Getting started

On the iPhone

1. Open the Match tab. Type the two names, choose the format, tap Start match.
2. Tap a player's half of the court to give them the point. The game, the set, the tiebreaks and the serve all follow by themselves.
3. Undo takes back the last point, Redo puts it back.
4. When the match is over, or you want to stop early, use the menu at the top right: End & save keeps it in History, Discard match throws it away.

On the Apple Watch

1. Open Deuce Tap on the watch. If a match is already running on the phone, it is already there.
2. Tap either half of the screen for a point; the bar at the bottom is Undo.
3. Swipe up for Lock, Auto-lock, Workout, Redo, Repeat score and New match.

Questions people actually ask

The watch and the phone show different scores

They catch up on their own as soon as both apps are open and the devices are in range of each other. Open Deuce Tap on both, wait a second or two, and the newer match wins. If the two have genuinely drifted apart, end the match on one device and start it again from the other — the score you keep should be the one you trust.

The app is not on my watch

On the iPhone, open the Watch app, scroll to Available Apps and install Deuce Tap. The watch app comes with the iPhone app; it is not a separate download from the App Store.

The score is not spoken

• The voice comes from the iPhone, not from the watch. The watch answers with haptics: one tap for a point, a stronger one for a set or a change of ends.
• Check Settings in the app: Announce score must not be set to Off.
• The announcement is a spoken-audio track, so it plays even with the ring switch silenced — but the phone's volume still has to be up.
• If music is playing, the app ducks it for the length of the call and lets it back afterwards.

The voice sounds robotic

iOS ships a compact voice and downloads better ones on request. In the app go to Settings → Improve voice quality, which walks you through it: iOS Settings → Accessibility → Spoken Content → Voices → your language → download a voice marked Enhanced or Premium. Deuce Tap then picks the best voice installed for the announcement language on its own — the Settings screen shows which one it is using.

Double Tap does not score a point

The pinch gesture needs Apple Watch Series 9, Ultra 2 or newer on watchOS 11 or later. Where it is available, it fires the strip at the top of the score screen, and the point goes to the player who is currently serving — Undo is one tap away if that was not what you wanted. On earlier watches the gesture simply does not exist and the tap zones do everything.

My sleeve keeps scoring points

That is what Auto-lock is for, and it is on by default: as soon as the screen sleeps and your wrist drops, scoring is locked and a small padlock appears at the top. To score through the lock, press and hold a player's half for about half a second — a deliberate press works, a brush does not. Undo behaves the same way. Swipe up to turn the lock off entirely.

The match is not showing up in Health

• The workout runs on the watch, so the Workout switch on the watch's controls page has to be on (it is by default).
• Deuce Tap asks for Health permission the first time. If you refused it, nothing else in the app is affected — but no workout is recorded. You can grant it later in the Health app: your profile, then the privacy section listing apps, then Deuce Tap.
• The workout is written when the match ends, not while it is being played.

The score is not on my Lock Screen

Live Activities can be switched off per app: iOS Settings → Deuce Tap → Live Activities. The card appears when a match starts, follows every point, and disappears about a minute after the match finishes.

Which format should I pick?

• Best of 3 — first to two sets. The usual club match.
• Best of 5 — first to three sets.
• One set — a single set to six games.
• Fast4 — sets to four games, tiebreak at 3-3 to five points, no-ad.
• No-ad (under Advanced) — at 40-40 the next point takes the game.
• Deciding set (under Advanced) — play the last set out, or settle it with a championship tiebreak to ten.

How do I delete my matches?

Swipe a row in History to delete one, or use Clear at the top of History to delete them all. Deleting the app from your iPhone removes everything: the history, the match in progress and all settings, on the phone and on the watch. Workouts already saved in Health belong to Health and have to be deleted there.

Does it work without the phone?

Yes. The watch keeps the whole match on its own, and the phone can be switched off or out of range. Scoring, announcements and History are entirely offline — the only thing that ever needs an internet connection is buying or restoring Deuce Tap Pro, because that goes through the App Store.

Is it free? Are there ads?

No advertising and no tracking, ever. The app is free to download, and scoring is free and unlimited — there is no trial and no cap on the number of matches. An optional one-time purchase — Deuce Tap Pro, £9.99 — opens the full after-match report: serve and return points, service games held and broken, break points, the longest game, the set-by-set breakdown, the momentum chart and the game-by-game write-up. There is no subscription and nothing else to buy. The report is worked out from the points you tapped, which the app has stored for every match since the day you installed it — so buying Pro opens the full report on your old matches too, not only on new ones.

I already bought Pro and it is asking me to buy it again

Open the Settings tab, find the Deuce Tap Pro section and tap Restore Purchases. That asks the App Store what your Apple Account owns and unlocks the app again, without charging you. It is the same button to use on a new iPhone, or after deleting and reinstalling the app. If you bought it on an Apple ID that is in a Family Sharing group, everyone in the group gets it — it may take a minute to arrive. Make sure you are signed in to the same Apple Account you bought it with; that is the usual cause.

Can I get a refund?

Refunds are handled by Apple, not by the developer, at reportaproblem.apple.com. If a refund goes through, the full report locks again on both devices. Scoring is unaffected — it is free with or without Pro — and nothing is deleted: your matches stay in History, and buying again reopens their reports.
